EA is a multinational conglomerate founded by Trip Hawkins 1982.
EA stands for Electronic Arts and are known for publishing games such as Battlefield, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Need for Speed and FIFA. This company is responsible for shutting down multiple game developers such as Bullfrog Productions, Westwood Studios, Origin Systems and more. EA bough these studios and then renamed them to fit in with the EA company. Alot of the employees were fired and existing developers were put into there place. The main competitor for EA would be Activision due to the Call of Duty & Battlefield comparisons. Activision was winning the competition until the release of Call of Duty: Ghosts which was a huge disappointment to players. EA released Battlefield 4 the same year and out sold COD: Ghosts significantly. EA are company that has vertical integration with a lot of subsidiaries such as BioWare, Criterion Games and DICE. These companies earn EA a lot of money and can also help reduce the amount of money that EA spend on creating the games due to additional funding from these subsidiaries. |
Sony Computer Entertainment is a multinational conglomerate founded in 1993.
Sony own multiple game companies including Guerrilla Games, Insomniac Games, Level-5, Ninja Theory and many others. They also own Sony Online Entertainment who are responsible for creating some popular MMO's such as EverQuest and Planetside. Sony's main competitor in the game industry would be Microsoft. These 2 companies own the 2 biggest consoles of all time, Playstation and Xbox. With the release of the PS4 and Xbox One the competition between these companies has escalated dramatically. Sony is currently ahead at this time due to the PS4 being favoured more than the Xbox One due to it being a more powerful system and gaming focused. Sony are similar to EA due to the amount of subsidaries they have creating games and other products. However most of these companies do not actually develop games. |
